Michael Stern, M.S.W.
Hello and welcome. I am a mental health counselor in Washington State (#SWL00004710) Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker. I received my masters degree in social work, M.S.W., from Washington University in St. Louis in 1974. Through my state license and advanced certification by the Academy of Certified Social Workers (ACSW), a national organization, I am approved and qualified for self regulated practice. I have been a psychotherapist for 37 years and have practiced in Washington State since 1986.
My career has included a rich array of clinical settings from primary care clnics, university student health centers, inpatient psychiatry, outpatient mental health clinics, geriatric mental health, and my own private practice. I currently have an office in Everett, Washington where I maintain an independent practice.
I see a wide age range of patients from age 9 to seniors. I have extensive experience in treating anxiety, panic, depression, stress related problems, post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, life transition problems, bipolar disorder, and difficulties arising from medical illness. Most of my work with adults is individual though a significant other may be included at times to educate and enlist their support.
My treatment of children and adolescents always involves family or significant others for a brief check-in at the onset and toward the end of the session. In this way the family is an informed and integral part of the minor''s care while still upholding patient/therapist confidentiality.
I do not treat families (family therapy) or couples (marital therapy). Additionally, I do not provide play therapy in my work with children. I do not provide alcohol or drug or other court-ordered evaluations.
